Kavan Gunaratna




General Profile

Kavan studied law at Trinity Hall, Cambridge before being called to the Bar in 2004 as a Lord Mansfield and Hardwicke scholar of Lincoln’s Inn. He qualified from Bar School with an ‘Outstanding’ classification (ranking in the top 10 of over 500 pupils in his year) and received a Buchanan prize from his Inn as the top scholar in the Michaelmas Call.  Kavan completed his training for the commercial-chancery Bar with 12 months’ pupillage at Erskine Chambers, focusing on company law, insolvency and commercial practice. He went on to receive the Sir Robert Megarry scholarship for his pupillage year.  Since joining us in 2006, Kavan has accepted instructions in all of the principal areas of chambers’ practice, including property, company and insolvency litigation and advice.

  • Company – Including directors duties and directors’ disqualification work
  • Insolvency – All aspects, corporate and individual including all stages of the winding up and bankruptcy process, disputed debts, validation orders and insolvency appeals

  • Commercial – All aspects of commercial and banking litigation, including contractual disputes, sale of goods, finance agreements, bills of sale, international trade, partnerships, securities, bills of exchange, letters of credit and guarantees

  • Property – All Aspects including conveyancing, mortgages, easements, restrictive covenants.
