Peter retired from the circuit bench in 2013 and joined chambers as a door tenant in January 2014. He provides an alternative dispute resolution service, including the three forms of ADR mentioned above.
Peter was called to the Bar at King’s Inns, Dublin in 1964. After completing a doctorate at Cambridge and holding a lectureship at Durham, he came to Lincoln’s Inn in 1969. He took silk in 1983 and was appointed to the circuit bench in 1991. He sat for ten years in East Anglia (where he was the first Designated Civil Judge for the court centres at Norwich and Cambridge). In 2001 he moved to Leeds and at the time of his retirement was the Mercantile Judge for the North Eastern Circuit. He covered the full range of civil work, including (in addition to commercial cases) chancery and insolvency, personal injuries, and clinical negligence. He was also assigned to sit in the Administrative Court.
